EdenSave Credit Union Vice-Chair Alison Dumont and EdenSave Manager Michael Westgarth
were delighted to welcome Penrith and the Border M.P. Rory Stewart to their office
at Devonshire Arcade, Penrith last Friday.
Mr Stewart was brought up to date with how the Credit Union has progressed since its launch in October 2013.
EdenSave volunteers Audrey Cannon and Una Kitching processed Mr Stewarts application for membership of the Credit Union and welcomed him as he joined the hundreds of other Eden residents who are now members.
In a message to EdenSave volunteers, Mrs Dumont was delighted to report that the Credit Union has now welcomed Mr Stewart as a member. "I see this as a real endorsement of all the hard work put in by our group of volunteers to establish and run a Credit Union providing savings and loans products for the people of Eden," she said.
The endorsement by Mr Stewart follows EdenSave Credit Union's success in receiving two Cumbria Social Enterprise Partnership (CSEP) awards at the recent CSEP Annual Conference in Cockermouth. The Credit Union - represented by one of EdenSave's founders Pat Godwin - received a plaque and prize money upon being named Co-operative of the Year. Ms Godwin received a further plaque and prize money in recognition of the Credit Union being runner up (Highly Commended) in the New Social Enterprise of the Year category.
